What should I do if my toilet won't flush but is not clogged?

If your toilet won’t flush and the bowl isn’t clogged, the issue is usually in the tank or water supply. Open the tank and confirm water fills to the marked line. Make sure the handle lifts the flapper and the chain isn’t too tight or too loose. Verify the shutoff valve is fully open. Replace a warped flapper or adjust the float if the fill valve won’t stop. If water is leaking or running nonstop, schedule service; emergency response is available.

  • Quick checks: water level, handle/chain, flapper seal, shutoff valve, float/fill valve.
